FREEDOM DRIVERS 4 VETERANS
Freedom Drivers 4 Veterans, FD4V, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) dedicated to giving back to our Veterans. Out of all of our fundraising efforts, 99% of the proceeds are returned back to the soldiers with visible and invisible wounds of war.
The Freedom Drivers 4 Veterans gives a hand up to help our nation’s Heroes and not a handout. Each case brought to our 501(c)(3) is vetted, reviewed, and voted on by our Board of Directors in order to justify our funding. We thank you, our supporters and donors, for your support throughout these years.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
- In our first year as a 501(c)(3) we helped the Independence Fund raise money for a young Marine in Wauchula, Florida. He was paralyzed from the neck down during basic training and the VA could do nothing to help him because he had not completed his training. FD4V raised money from our tournament that year and donated it to the Independence Fund which in turn got him an all terrain Tank wheelchair adapted for his disabilities
- FD4V donated money for a soldier who served in Iraq with severe PTSD to participate in a veterans fishing event held here in Florida.
- FD4V bought supplies and taught classes in art at a retreat held in South Carolina for Veterans with disabilities. Art is a pillar of strength for those injured in war.
- FD4V donated to Paws 4 Veterans. This program takes dogs from kill shelters and places them with Trustee Prisoners to be trained as service dogs for Veterans. This program is no longer active in that work prison.
- Sue Fay, President of FD4V, visited a shelter for the Maine Homeless Veterans Alliance. The FD4V purchased one-hundred pounds of blankets for those homeless Veterans.
- A homeless vet, brought to us by a local Vietnam Veteran, was in much need of help paying back child support and fines he had incurred. He was given a job but couldn't drive until all his debt was paid off. FD4V vetted him and paid off his fines so he now has a job and a place to live.
- In 2019, FD4V provided assistance to two female Veterans who had served in Iraq and were needing help.
- The Summer of 2019, FD4V participated in a celebration for Purple Heart recipients held at the Peace River Retreat. The celebration was held for recipients, their families, and other dignitaries from around the state. Along with help from the Arcadia Elks Club, FD4V hosted the event with a beautiful roast pork dinner.
- FD4V provided assistance to a Veteran whose transmission went out in his car and could not get back and forth to work. The FD4V bought a new transmission for him.
- A Veteran and his family were living in an apartment and the refrigerator broke. The landlord would not replace the refrigerator, so the Board of FD4V agreed to purchase a used refrigerator in great condition so that he could store his food again.
- Another case involved a young Veteran that needed dental work and could not qualify for assistance from the VA because they do not treat gum diseases. FD4V negotiated with a dentist to help the veteran.
FURTHERING OUR REACH THROUGH OTHER PROGRAMS
Operation Outdoor Freedom:
Operation Outdoor Freedom is a program that gives outdoor opportunities for Florida’s Wounded Veterans. This program (located at the Peace River Retreat) is run by the State of Florida Forestry Department. This venue has a large parcel of land and a beautifully remodeled ranch located on the Peace River.
Organizations combining efforts:
Freedom Drivers 4 Veterans is planning a future weekend retreat at Operation Outdoor Freedom for Veterans for the PTSD companions. We feel that nature also helps improve mental and physical well-being. FD4V believes these tranquil settings allows for safe, secure and healthy healing atmosphere.
